Principal’s Welcome

It hardly seems a week since I was writing to you and wishing you all a happy holiday with your children. I do hope you have had a wonderful time over the summer and enjoyed having your children at home with you.

As the new term begins I would like to welcome all the children back to school and I look forward to seeing as many of you at school over the next year as possible. We also have 6 fabulous new teachers joining us this year as well as a number of new teaching assistants and students. I am sure you would like to join with me in welcoming them to our very special school. I know that you will offer them your support and help, in order to make them feel at home as quickly as possible. A full list of all the staff can be found on the website.

Once again we have been busy over the summer painting and decorating and giving the school a really good clean. A big thank you to everyone who has made this happen.

We will continue to embed our Values Education over the year and our first value for the month of September will be Respect. This is a value that has a very high profile at Drove. The children know that they are unique and everyone is valued. They show respect for themselves and each other and the children are able to demonstrate this through their actions.

This term’s topic overviews can be seen on the website under the different year groups. Each year group will be holding curriculum meetings which will give parents an opportunity to discuss and ask questions about the curriculum and understand some of the ways in which the children can be supported at home. We will also be holding our Parent /Teacher discussion meetings towards the end of Term 1.

One of our biggest issues year on year has been long term absence due to holidays during term time. This has an extremely detrimental impact on the children and is something that the Government are more determined than ever to try and stop. Our Education Welfare Officer Ms Laura Collins will be working closely with our families and the school to try and overcome the problems that prevent children getting to school on time or attending school.  Please help your children by ensuring they are in school every day.

We are all looking forward to an exciting new year and with your continued support we will achieve excellent outcomes for all the children at Drove.

Best wishes

Helen Swanson
